Dylan’s Story!

Around the age of eight, my mother brought out her childhood keyboard from storage. She dusted it off and taught me a few basic songs which she remembered from her time taking piano lessons. After showing some interest, it was decided to enroll me in group piano lessons in Upland. My folks realized that this group format was very stagnating to certain children in the class who were either more interested in the instrument or making greater progress. So, after some time it was decided that I would take lessons with a private tutor instead.

After some searching, we found Quality Piano Lessons in Chino (now located in Georgia). That’s where I met my longtime mentor Don Duong. I took lessons with Don for seven years and eventually was able to play the most difficult music ever written for the piano, learn songs by-ear, and even compose my own music…

“My son (9) and daughter (7) have been taking piano lessons with Dylan for over 2 years. They both love learning piano with him. He has a great teaching method, both of my kids have excelled with his guidance. He is very patient, professional, and encouraging with both children. They are both excited to play the piano and look forward to lessons. He gives them excellent advice on how to practice effectively at home and teaches many specific techniques on playing the piano correctly. I would highly recommend Dylan to anyone that wants to learn piano.”

My son is very happy here. He is the best teacher!”

FAQ

How and when should one practice?

Many people believe that piano is an instrument which requires several hours of Many people believe that piano is an instrument which requires several hours of practice each week. But like going to the gym, consistency is ultimately what matters the most. My rule of thumb is usually that 10-15 minutes of daily proper practicing is enough for anyone to see significant results over time.

What kind of piano should I get?

Although a nice electric keyboard with weighted keys will be sufficient in the beginning of one’s piano adventure, it is my recommendation that all of my students eventually upgrade to an acoustic piano, whether an upright or a grand.

How early can my child start piano lessons?

Usually five years of age and up is a sensible time to begin piano lessons. Children who are younger are prone to have less interest and ability to maintain focus during lessons. But that said, each child is different and it is best to determine the right age on a case by case basis (that is, usually on the basis of maturity).
